Bay College to sell native wildflowers at annual greenhouse sale

The Bay College science department hopes to increase native plants in the area with its 24th annual greenhouse sale.

The sale focuses mainly on native perennial wildflowers grown from locally collected seeds. However, there will also be a small variety of tomatoes, peppers, herbs and annual flowers.

Dr. Brian Black, Bay College Biology instructor and Greenhouse manager, said native plants require much less maintenance than other plants.

“The cool thing about native plants is that they’re adapted to our climate and our soils,” Black said. “They really require minimum care and effort to maintain a good-looking garden.”

The instructor said they were really trying to ensure a good quality habitat for the animals and to protect the pollinators in the area.
