One grower has come forward in Zevenhuizen, the Netherlands, following an appeal by grid operator Liander for flex power. As a result, thirteen farms will get power. In Boskoop, no additional space to connect farms has been found as yet. One company also reported there, but participation by this company does not provide enough additional space.
Since September 2023, the maximum capacity of the power station in Zevenhuizen has been reached. Monique Hoogwijk, Liander’s regional manager, calls what is possible in Zevenhuizen “a good example”. “Together we are keeping the power grid accessible, despite the congestion. Besides expansion and reinforcement, we must also continue to look at where there is extra space and which can be better distributed. This is why we encourage companies to work with us to look at the possibilities of spreading off-take so that we keep the power grid available for everyone.”
Liander worked with the horticultural company to look at electricity consumption and concluded that there is flexible power available for 13 new companies on the waiting list in Zevenhuizen. The horticultural company will receive compensation for the flexibility. “For new companies, we will continue to explore options for flexibility in the region,” he said.
Boskoop
In addition to Zevenhuizen, Liander also investigated whether entrepreneurs in Boskoop region were willing to make ‘flexible’ use of the power grid. One company was found in Boskoop, but due to the size of the congestion on the grid, it does not offer enough room for new customers. In this area, companies remain on the waiting list for the time being.
Expansion of the electricity grid
Liander will be working hard in the coming years to expand the electricity grid in the Holland-Rijnland region. Over the next two years, 394 million euros will be invested in this region for this purpose. Looking ahead to 2033, together with TenneT we are building two larger electricity substations (150kV) in the region; one in Zuidplaspolder near Zevenhuizen and one in Hazerswoude-Rijndijk.
