The market transaction scale of China’s flower e-commerce has increased rapidly in recent years, from 16.88 billion yuan in 2016 to 72.06 billion yuan in 2020, with a compound annual growth rate of 43.74% in five years. The proportion of flower e-commerce retail sales in the entire online retail market is also increasing, which has increased from 0.2% in 2010 to about 0.6% in 2020. At present, this proportion will continue to grow in the future.
Flower industry market size
The embryonic form of the regional specialized production layout of China’s flower industry appears. Regional characteristics have formed a production layout of “fresh cut flowers in the southwest, seedlings and potted flowers in the southeast, seed balls in the cold areas in the northwest, and processed flowers in the northeast.”

In the past two years, all the work has achieved better stage results, and the flower industry in each cluster county. For example, as a new area of the flower industry, Lufeng County, in 2021, the flower planting area reached 35,000 mu, the output of 1.11 billion branches, and the output value exceeded 1.2 billion yuan.
During the “14th Five-Year Plan” period, Guangxi will vigorously support the creation of autonomous region-level and municipal flower characteristics forestry modernization demonstration zones, focusing on the construction of flower trading markets. It is planned to build a number of flower parks such as edible, medicinal, and industrial flowers, green ornamental seedlings, potted bonsai, etc. The “14th Five-Year Plan for the development of Guangxi forestry and grass Industry” makes it clear that by 2025, the region’s flower production area will increase to 100,000 hectares, and the comprehensive output value of the whole flower industry chain will reach 50 billion yuan.
In 2021, the scale of China’s flower retail market will reach 220.5 billion yuan, an increase of 17.5% over 2020. International trade in flowers has also made new breakthroughs. Data from the General Administration of Customs show that the total import and export trade of flowers in China in 2021 exceeded the 700 million US dollars mark for the first time, an increase of 12.66% from 2020. Among them, the export value was 465 million US dollars, an increase of 20.24% over 2020.
