Plantador Colombia, working with one of the largest propagators of rose plants in Latin America, has just installed a new water filter by NUF Filtration Ltd. for their propagation, which is working like a charm. Originally an Israeli technology, the NUF water filter was shown for the first time at Proflora in Bogota, Colombia.

“The filter uses the same type of filters you’d find in a dialysis machine, meaning it’s medical grade material. It removes things like bacteria, viruses, spores, nematodes, and nematode eggs, basically everything the size of a new base pairs of DNA is removed. However, Salt is not removed, which means that if you fertilize the water, you can reuse the fertilization, which saves money on fertilizer. There is also no need for treatment of the run-off, and it’s very environmentally conscious overall,” says Aviram Krell of Plantador Colombia.
The company has been using the filter in the rose propagation facility in Ecuador and plans to install it in Colombia, at Plantador Colombia, as well. “As a propagator, the material they use needs to be 100% clean, so they have never reused water before in their hydroponic systems. However, with the new filter, we have a closed-loop system.”
Now, also growers in Latin America have access to this installation as Plantador is distributing them in Latin America. “The filter is mainly meant for hydroponic growing, where most growers already have a system for drainage in place, making it very easy to get the water in a tank, run it through the filter, and reuse it again as clean water. But the filter could be used for every industry that would benefit from the reuse of water, so I’m sure we’ll find a place for it on the Latin American Market.”
