“Multiple use products benefit logistics”

Logistics chains are seeking solutions that will allow for a transition to cleaner, greener packaging. The Dutch company Newwen is driving this change by developing and producing smart technological solutions, responsible material choices, and intelligent systems.

Silvia van den Aardweg, Diana Hernandez, and Robert Dompeling show boxes in various colors for different products. You can use them during harvesting, transportation, and (store)sales.

A future-proof, sustainable world requires a circular economy. En route to it, companies encounter logistical challenges. “Newwen focuses on products’ entire life cycle. We help companies on their way in all sorts of areas. If that seems like a broad term, it’s because it is,” Director Bob IJpelaar.

Newwen is progressing rapidly. The company has only been around for a year and started from scratch. However, as part of the Van Vliet Companies, customers can count on a ‘boatload of in-house experience.’

The company produces items that can be used multiple times. Hoek Flowers is one of the first to use its polypropylene boxes. They replace the previously used cardboard boxes and find their way to customers worldwide. After being used up to 25 times, the folded, flat boxes are returned to be recycled.

You have options with these boxes: antibacterial, antistatic, UV-protective, and moisture-resistant. They are labeled with a linked QR code, RFID, and barcode, too. “We also supply the accompanying software, which handles things like traceability. You can use these types of boxes for flower transport, but in other sizes, they’re also suitable for fruit and vegetables.”

Tomatoes, avocados, eggplants. Like cardboard boxes, these plastic containers are allrounders with the difference that they comply with future legislation. To be well prepared, the sector is anticipating that. “A South American citrus exporter will soon start using these reusable boxes equipped with RFID. So, we’re going full throttle ahead,” Bob concludes.

The banana boxes have special seams that make them strong and durable.

Newwen has developed a banana harvesting system with APVs (Automatic Pulling Vehicles) for a grower in South America.

These are just some of the products the company has developed in a short time. Their corporate film proves they are ready to forge ahead.
