The second stage of the pilot project on training women in progressive horticultural practices has concluded at the Polissia National University, marking a significant step in the revitalization of Ukraine’s agricultural sector. The initiative was conducted in collaboration with the Department of Agro-Industrial Development and Economic Policy of the Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration, with sponsorship from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The program consisted of 8 educational modules covering fundamentals of economics and management, enterprise management, greenhouse farming organisation, cultivation specifics of various crops, technical aspects of production, legal support for farming businesses, and marketing agricultural products, among others.
Twenty-five female farmers from across the region participated in the two-week training course. On February 16, the practical segment of the training took place, involving visits to two modern greenhouse farms specializing in vegetable and flower cultivation, including hydrangeas and tulips.
The participants visited the “Stanyshevsky Vegetable Combine” LLC, occupying 6 hectares of covered soil area and specializing in cucumber and tomato cultivation using basalt wool technology.
The excursion continued at the “Cavchenko Gren Farm” greenhouse complex, focusing on flower cultivation and vegetable seedlings. The participants toured modern greenhouses, where a hydrangea cultivation line was demonstrated, showcasing contemporary practices in horticulture.
