Rosa Plaza has planted a wide assortment with over 10 varieties from breeders HilverdaFlorist, Royal Van Zanten, and Konst Alstroemeria. These varieties were selected after extensive testing with more than 150 types. Farm manager Dirk Looij explains: “Not all varieties grow equally well in every climate. By testing extensively, we have selected the varieties that perform well year-round, in all seasons.”
Rosa Plaza will initially start with the varieties Mistral, Hot Pepper, Hiphop, Lancaster, and True Dream on the clock of Royal FloraHolland. In the coming weeks, new varieties will continue to be introduced regularly. There are also plans to supply beautiful mixed packaging units when production increases. The first reactions to the trade have been very positive. Especially the heavy sturdy branches and tight sorting by weight are appreciated.
For years, Rosa Plaza has been seeking to expand its assortment with a new crop. Wim Ammerlaan explains: “Our Farm Manager Dirk Looij has gained a lot of experience with Alstroemeria cultivation in Kenya in the past, he highlighted the excellent potential of our high-altitude location in Debre Zeit off. After two years of extensive testing, we made the move and planted two hectares. The flowers have been coming in for several weeks now, and we got very positive responses.” Last Friday, March 1, Rosa Plaza started auctioning Alstroemeria on the auction of Royal Flora Holland. The Alstroemeria has now been added to the already extensive range of roses. The Alstroemeria is cultivated at the location in Debre Zeit, in the highlands of Ethiopia. The initial reactions are very promising. The Alstroemeria thrives in the conditions of Debre Zeit. The high light levels and cool nights result in a beautiful product year-round. As in rose cultivation, Rosa Plaza also strives towards the minimal use of chemicals in Alstroemeria cultivation. By employing natural enemies, using biorationals, and extensive scouting, the team at the nursery can keep all diseases and pests under control without using chemicals. For more information:
