The consequences can range from a CHP being turned off due to a hack to financial losses and reputational damage. Phishing
Cybercriminals pose as a trusted party with the aim of obtaining sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details. This is often done through emails, (WhatsApp) messages, or websites that look legitimate but are actually deceptive. You are then usually urgently called to action, such as opening a link, updating account details, or helping a family member. This is how the cybercriminal gains access to your account.
Ransomware
Ransomware is a form of malicious software (malware) that encrypts files or even entire systems. You won’t get these (or access to them) back until you pay a ransom. This form of cybercrime can cause enormous damage to individuals, businesses, and even government agencies.
Identity theft
This involves stealing personal information, such as name, address, date of birth, and social security number, to carry out fraudulent activities, such as applying for loans or making purchases on the victim’s account. This information can be obtained through various methods, including data breaches, phishing, and malware attacks.
